Resume & Cover Letter Workshop

 

 

 

      

Time & Date:     8:30 A.M. – 2:30  P.M.       Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007         

         This program is an optional preparation workshop for “Countdown to the Principalship” – a 4-workshop series in Jan-Feb, 2008.

 

Location:              Tivoli Center Zenith Room (Rm. #640), Auraria Campus

 

Purpose:               This Colorado Principals’ Center workshop will prepare aspiring school leaders to take the initial steps necessary to get an interview for your first or next administrative position – either the principalship, an assistant principalship, or another formal leadership role.

 

Topics:

þ           The Hiring Process in School Administration (brief overview)

þ           Cover Letters:  How to get an interview

þ           Resumes:  How to best summarize your qualifications on paper

þ           Letters of Recommendation:  Who to ask & how to help them

 

Workshop Format:

·              Review of best practice in resumes and cover letters

·              Sample documents and guidelines

·              Small group feedback from peers

·              Time to revise your documents

·              Question & answer dialogue

 

Facilitator(s):     This workshop will be facilitated by Jim Brickey and Veronica Benavidez Jim Brickey is a former Director of Elementary Schools, Elementary Principal  in Douglas County Schools. Veronica Benavidez has been a Director of Human Resources and is currently the Principal at Remington Elementary School in Denver Public Schools. Both have worked in recruitment and hiring of administrative positions for several years in Boulder , Commerce City , Cherry Creek, Denver , Douglas County ; and have many years of experience as principals.

                                           

                          In their previous positions, Veronica & Jim have hired well over 50 principals!

þ         1st Draft of your cover letter and resume

  •                 Bring 2 extra copies to share

þ         Laptop – so you can revise your documents

  •                 Printers and paper will be available

þ          Bring a Lunch – so we can save time, $, and have a working lunch hour.  A light continental breakfast will be provided.
